Altar Servers:
Students in Grade 3 and up are invited to participate in a program each fall to prepare for the privilege of serving at the altar. If you want more information or want to sign up, please contact Deacon Hank via the Rectory 860-623-2524 or at CCD Class and we’ll have Deacon Hank reach out to you.
Baptism for Older Children:
In order to make First Communion and First Confession a child must be baptized. Mary, Gate of Heaven Parish provides an opportunity through the religious education program for school-age children to prepare for Baptism. Contact the rectory (860-623-2524) or the Faith Formation Office (860-627-9469) for more information.
Books:
Classes begin in September and end in April. All students are invited to take their books home at the end of the CCD year. During the school year, all books are kept in the classrooms.
Class Lists & Room Locations:
These are posted in the St. Mary Parish Center lobby during the first 2 weeks of classes. You will receive an email confirmation and/ or a phone call of your day and time for class, especially in the case of your preferred day/time being unavailable.
Dismissal Procedures:
Grades 1-5 are dismissed from Room 14. Please enter through the ramp door from St. Mary’s Church Parking Lot and sign out your student. We will have a form so you can list who can sign out your student and pick them up.
Grades 6-9 are dismissed for pickup out the Lobby doors to Church Street and Spring Street.
If you need to pick up your student early or drop them off late, please notify the office. You still must sign out your student if they are in Grades 1-5. If they are in Grades 6-9, you must notify the office so that we will get your student out of class. This is a school. Teachers will NOT release children from class early without prior notice from the office. Please call 860-627- 9469 or email DRE@marygateofheaven.org in advance.
The building closes when classes end.
Parent Involvement:
Parents are encouraged to:
- Volunteer to teach or help out in other ways with the Mary, Gate of Heaven Parish Religious Education program;
- Remind and encourage cooperation, good manners, and good behavior in class;
- Set a good example for your child through prayers, attendance at Mass, and living the best you can each day;
- Teaching your child the Sign of the Cross, prayers, genuflection before the tabernacle, and acceptable church behavior.
